History
The club was founded in 1993 as
'Super Strikers'
Girls Football Club, playing in a local six
a-side league at Under 11. The founder members
were all from a local school, Chandag Primary
and came to the current manager with a request
to help them start a football team, as their
sports teacher uttered the classic comment:
'I'm far too busy with the boys team on a Saturday and girls can't play football anyway...' The rest, as they say, is history! We continued playing six-a-side for about three years, before attracting additional players to enable us to start playing occasional eleven-a-side friendlies. We changed our name to 'Protel Super Strikers' after sponsorship from a local Telecom company, Protel. We also adopted a 'Celtic' style Green and White playing kit, which later became more dominant Green with Black. In the season of 1998/99, we entered the South West Women's League in Division Two and finished third place. At the same time we changed our name to 'Keynsham Town Ladies FC' and became closely affiliated to 'Keynsham Town' men's club, sharing their clubhouse and facilities. The Ladies team has had large successful periods over the years and have previously played in the "FA Women's National League - Southern Premier Division" the third tier of English Women's football! - several members of our squad have WSL experience and also International caps! Our reserve side 'Keynsham Town Ladies Reserves' play in the "Women's National Reserve South West League" and is largely made up of players that played Youth Level at different ages at the club. |
