CODE OF CONDUCT - PARENTS/GUARDIANS

*Promoting Respect and Positive Behaviour in Football*

At Keynsham Town LFC, we all share the responsibility of upholding high standards of behaviour in football. As a Club, we fully support the FA’s Respect programme, ensuring that football remains an enjoyable, safe, and positive experience for everyone involved.

*Respect Code of Conduct*

Parents and guardians play a crucial role in fostering a supportive environment. We ask that all parents observe The FA’s Respect Code of Conduct for spectators, carers, and parents, and actively understand and support our Club’s philosophy from the very beginning of their journey with us.

*Club Membership and Communication*

We are a Ladies Club, where all players must be at least 16 years old.

We understand that players may require support from a parent or guardian when communicating with coaches, particularly for those under 18 and, in some cases, for players over 18.

For players over 18: We ask that they send a WhatsApp message to their coach confirming that they permit a parent or guardian to speak on their behalf. This ensures compliance with data protection laws, similar to how consent is required for medical discussions or other professional matters.

For players under 18: Parents/guardians are permitted to communicate directly with coaches.

Face-to-face meetings: In both cases, arranging an in-person discussion may be the best way to ensure all parties reach a satisfactory outcome.

*Expectations for Parents and Guardians*

When attending matches or training sessions, parents and guardians are expected to:

Stay outside the field of play and behind the Designated Spectators’ Area (where provided).

Refrain from using offensive, insulting, or abusive language or behaviour.

Applaud effort and good play, regardless of the result.

Remember that football should be enjoyable and fun for the players.

Allow coaches to do their job without offering conflicting instructions to players.

Respect the decisions of match officials.

Encourage players to show respect to opponents and officials.

Never criticise a player for making mistakes – mistakes are essential for learning and growth, even for young adults.

*Post-Match Communication*

We also encourage parents to be mindful of how they engage with players, coaches, and club officials after a game.

Speaking to players: Young players need time to reflect on their performance. The immediate period after a match—especially during the drive or walk home—is not the best time for analysis or advice. Instead, a simple question such as, “Did you enjoy it?” or “Did you have fun?” is more beneficial than asking, “What was the score?” or “Did you win?”

Speaking to coaches and officials: Emotions can run high after a game. This is not the best time to raise concerns such as playing time or tactical decisions. Instead, we encourage these discussions to take place at a scheduled time, such as the next training session, where a productive conversation can be had.

*Commitment to Development*

Parents and guardians should encourage players to practice outside of scheduled training and to engage in other sports. This greatly enhances their overall development, agility, and understanding of the game.

*Accountability*

Failure to follow the FA’s Respect Code of Conduct may result in action being taken by the Club or the League.

By working together, we can ensure that football remains a positive experience for all players, parents, and staff at Keynsham Town LFC. Thank you for your continued support and cooperation.
